Low Iron

We all need iron to maintain the healthy functioning of our bodies in particular our blood, so having low iron can cause many symptoms for patients who present to their local doctor. One of the commonest symptoms we see is tiredness and also people with low iron may become what we call anaemic and present to their GP looking very pale. We get iron from our diet so people who are vegetarians and have no red meat are especially at risk. Also women who have heavy periods or people who are otherwise losing blood are also at risk of low iron. In this short video we talk about iron deficiency, what causes it, how it is diagnosed and how it can be treated.
